Bennington Community Unites in Grief and Gratitude for Jim Vires
In a heartfelt message, Genie Rayner expressed deep gratitude to the Bennington community and the wider Vermont family for their overwhelming support following the passing of her partner, Jim Vires. Rayner reflected on the profound impact Jim had on both Bennington and its residents, noting that his love for the town was matched by the affection he received in return.
The sentiments were beautifully captured in a piece by Jim Therrien in the Bennington Banner, which commemorated Jim’s life and contributions following his sudden death on October 17, 2024. The article, titled "Jim Vires remembered by a town he loved," celebrated Jim’s unique individuality and his significant presence in the community since relocating to Bennington in October 2012.
Rayner acknowledged the countless friends and supporters who rallied around them during this difficult time, many of whom attended Jim’s memorial gathering. She expressed her gratitude to all who have reached out with love and sympathy, emphasizing that their kindness has created a bond that feels like chosen family to her and Jim.
While she wishes she could name each individual personally, Rayner confirmed that a more extensive acknowledgment will be shared on Facebook. She expressed her hope that all who have supported them will find blessings in their lives as they have blessed hers and Jim’s.
As the community continues to honor Jim’s legacy, Rayner encourages residents to cherish their connections, remember the joy he brought to their lives, and uphold the spirit of compassion that he embodied throughout his time in Bennington.
