Thanksgiving holiday travel has been impacted by a storm tracking from the Rockies to the Midwest and Northeast, bringing rain and snow that has caused delays and disruptions for travelers. Airport delays and flight cancellations have been reported across the U.S. as a result of the storm, with some travelers experiencing long wait times due to inclement weather conditions. Road travelers have also been affected by rain and snow on major highways, with slippery conditions reported as far south as Virginia and Maryland.
The storm is forecasted to continue moving eastward, bringing cold rain to the I-95 corridor on Thanksgiving Day. The Northeast and New England regions can expect heavy snow, with some areas potentially receiving over 6 inches of snow and the possibility of power outages due to windy conditions. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City is expected to go on despite the rain, as winds are forecasted to be less than 10 mph, allowing balloons to fly.
As the storm system moves out of the New England area, travel conditions are expected to improve by Friday, although cold winds in New England and lake effect snow around the Great Lakes will continue through the weekend. Authorities are warning travelers to take precautions against vehicle thefts in airport parking lots, with over 300 cars stolen from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport this year alone. More than 50 vehicles were also stolen from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, leading to increased security measures at airports to prevent car theft incidents.
