A 22-year-old contractor from NZ Power Wash in Framingham, Massachusetts, suffered life-threatening injuries when he received an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree in Wellesley. The man was using a 34-foot pole to string up the lights, which came in close proximity to an electrical line atop a utility pole, resulting in the shock. He collapsed and was found unconscious by a coworker who called 911. The coworker performed CPR, and police officers used a defibrillator to revive him before he was rushed to the hospital. The victim was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment. OSHA is investigating the incident along with the Wellesley Police and Municipal Light Plant. The man’s coworker declined to comment but mentioned that he is recovering in the hospital. The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments expressed their thoughts and prayers for the victim and his family in a statement. The victim’s survival was described as lucky considering the severity of the incident. The police officer Tim Gover mentioned that the man took a significant hit from the shock. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation to determine the exact cause of the electric shock.
