Winter Storm Watch Issued for Southern Vermont and New Hampshire Ahead of Thanksgiving

The National Weather Service has announced a winter storm watch for parts of southern Vermont and New Hampshire, effective through Thanksgiving and into early Friday. A significant storm is expected to bring widespread wet snow and rain to the region on Thanksgiving Day.

While northern New York, the Champlain Valley, and northern Vermont are not expected to face major weather impacts, southern Vermont will see heavy, wet snow that could severely disrupt travel from southern Vermont into southern New Hampshire during the afternoon and evening hours. Travelers are advised to be cautious, as conditions are predicted to be challenging.

Snow accumulation forecasts indicate a wide range across the region, with little to no accumulation expected in the northern Champlain Valley, a couple of inches in higher elevations, and over 8 inches in the mountainous areas of southern Vermont.

Looking ahead, the weather from Friday through the weekend will consist of a mix of clouds and sunshine, accompanied by a cool breeze and random snow showers. The warm water in the Great Lakes and Hudson Bay will interact with cold air to create bands of snow, similar to the motion of a garden hose, primarily affecting mountainous regions while valley locations may see little impact.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, especially with travel plans surrounding the holiday. For ongoing updates and alerts, individuals can utilize the myNBC5 app and follow local meteorologists on social media for the latest forecasts.

Stay prepared and informed as you navigate through the upcoming winter weather conditions.
