After a delay, President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has signed a memorandum of understanding with the White House to coordinate with federal agencies. This allows for critical preparations to begin, including accessing resources like personnel and documents. Trump had missed previous deadlines for similar agreements, prompting criticism from officials and lawmakers. The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee warned that failing to sign these agreements could jeopardize a smooth transition of power. Trump’s team stated they did not sign an agreement with the General Services Administration because they wanted to be a self-sufficient organization. Despite the disagreement, the White House will facilitate a smooth transition in the best interest of the American people. The agreement with the White House required Trump to publicly post his ethics plan for the transition team, which was uploaded on the GSA website. The team did not sign an agreement with the Justice Department, which would allow background checks on Cabinet nominees. Trump’s team and the Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment. The transition team’s actions have raised concerns about the potential impact on the safety and well-being of the United States.
