The Hofstra University men’s soccer team ended their season with a 2-1 loss to Vermont in the second round of the NCAA Championship. The Pride fought hard, scoring a game-tying goal early in the second half only to see Vermont retake the lead less than a minute later. A late equalizer was taken off the board due to an offsides call. Hofstra finished with a 14-5-2 record, while Vermont improved to 13-2-5 and advanced to the NCAA third round for the third consecutive season. Vermont struck first, but Hofstra’s Jacob Woznicki tied the game. However, Vermont quickly took the lead again with a goal from David Ismail. Despite Hofstra’s pressure in the second half, they were unable to find the equalizer. Vermont’s goalkeeper Niklas Herceg made four saves to secure the win. The loss was Hofstra’s first at home since October 15, 2022, ending their 22-game unbeaten streak at Captains Field. Woznicki’s goal was his ninth of the season, while Teddy Baker’s assist tied him for the team lead. Goalkeeper Filippo Dadone made one save for the Pride. Hofstra finished the season with an 8-1-1 home record and has a 6-8-1 all-time record in NCAA Championship play. Vermont will now host San Diego in the NCAA Third Round next weekend.
