Vermont Women’s Hockey Faces Heartbreaking Loss Against UNH

Burlington, VT – The Vermont Catamounts suffered a tough 1-0 defeat to the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse, in a match that doubled as a Can for Coffee Food Drive presented by Keurig. A critical third-period power play goal by UNH’s Callista Printz ultimately sealed Vermont’s fate.

Despite a strong performance overall, the Catamounts struggled to find the back of the net. Coach Jim Plumer lamented the loss, stating, "Another heartbreaking loss for a team that is playing so hard. I genuinely believe the tide will turn for us soon." Vermont dominated the first period, outshooting UNH 7-4 but couldn’t convert their chances. Lara Beecher came close with a shot that hit the post and later missed on a breakaway in the second.

The game remained scoreless until Printz’s wrist shot from the top of the circle beat Vermont goalie Jane Gervais early in the third period, putting New Hampshire ahead 1-0. The Catamounts were unable to equalize despite critical efforts, culminating in a disappointing evening for the team.

Vermont, which had four players register three shots on goal, won the faceoff battle 27-24 but couldn’t capitalize on any scoring opportunities. The Catamounts will look to bounce back in their next matchup against the Maine Black Bears on Sunday, November 24, at 2 p.m., which will be their final home game of the year. This special Youth Day event, presented by Healthy Living, will include various activities for kids prior to the game and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
