President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought, a co-author of Project 2025 and former Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director, as his pick to lead the OMB again. Trump praised Vought as an aggressive cost cutter and deregulator who will help implement the America First Agenda. Vought responded to his nomination with gratitude and spoke of unfinished business on behalf of the American people.
In Project 2025, Vought argued for fiscal responsibility in the federal government, emphasizing the power of the President’s budget in setting and enforcing public policy across agencies. Despite distancing himself from Project 2025 during the campaign, Trump and his allies have selected individuals associated with the initiative for positions in his administration.
If confirmed by the Senate, Vought would oversee budget and policy execution across executive departments and agencies. Trump also announced other key Cabinet picks, including former NFL player Scott Turner for housing and urban development secretary, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer for labor secretary, surgeon Marty Makary for FDA commissioner, and former Rep. Dave Weldon for CDC director. Sebastian Gorka, a former aide, was named as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism.
Trump’s selections signal a focus on fiscal conservatism and regulatory reform, with an emphasis on implementing his policy agenda through trusted individuals like Russell Vought and others associated with Project 2025.
