Bison Women’s Basketball Advances in Great Alaska Shootout
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team secured a solid 58-50 victory over Vermont in the opening round of the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout, held at the Alaska Airlines Center. The win marks the Bison’s third victory of the season, improving their record to 3-1.
A standout performance came from Molly Lenz, who achieved a career-high 15 points, shooting 4-of-9 from the field and an impressive 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Lenz also contributed four assists, six rebounds, and one steal. Abby Krzewinski added significant support, scoring 11 points off the bench and going a perfect 4-of-4 in field goals, including three three-pointers. Avery Koenen led the team in rebounds with seven while tallying eight points.
The Bison showcased an impressive turnaround, outscoring Vermont 24-10 in the pivotal third quarter after trailing 31-22 at halftime. NDSU initiated the quarter with a powerful 12-2 run, with Krzewinski sinking two three-pointers, ultimately allowing the Bison to take a lead of 34-33.
In the fourth quarter, NDSU maintained a narrow edge with strategic plays, culminating in a Jumper by Koenen that brought the score to 51-45 with just under four minutes left. Despite Vermont’s efforts to close the gap, including cutting the lead to three points with 32 seconds remaining, Lenz sealed the game with five critical free throws in the closing moments.
Next, the Bison will face Troy at 11:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 23, for the championship round of the tournament, marking the first matchup between the two teams.
