Ice Castles, a complex of frozen walls, arches, tunnels, and slides, is returning for a second winter in Cripple Creek, west of Colorado Springs, as the recent frigid temperatures have allowed for the construction of this icy wonderland. Artisans are working hard to grow, harvest, and place up to 10,000 icicles each day, with water serving as “glue” to stack the ice formations up to 20 feet high. The ice is embedded with multicolored LED lights, creating a magical experience for visitors.
Last year, the Ice Castles in Cripple Creek attracted over 100,000 people, providing a significant boost in winter tourism for the town. This year, the hilltop attraction is set to open in late December, depending on weather conditions, with advance tickets going on sale soon. Tickets for adults were priced at $27 on weekends and $21 on off-peak days, while children’s tickets were between $16 and $22. In addition to Cripple Creek, Ice Castles also announced a return to the Interstate 70 corridor with a second location in Eagle.
The tunnels, fountains, slides, and cascading towers of light in Ice Castles provide a unique experience for visitors to enjoy during the winter season. This upcoming season promises to be just as magical as the last, with the intricate ice formations and vibrant LED lights creating a breathtaking display for all to enjoy.
