Hempstead, NY – The No. 7 Hofstra University men’s soccer team is set to host the University of Vermont in the second round of the NCAA Championship this Sunday at 5 p.m. at Captains Field. This marks a significant milestone for Hofstra, as it is only the second time in the program’s history that they have received a top seed in the tournament, coming off a 14th seed last year.
The game will be live-streamed on ESPN+, with live statistics and an audio broadcast available on WRHU-FM (88.7). Tickets can be purchased at HofstraTickets.com, with any remaining tickets sold at the Captains Field Box Office beginning an hour before kickoff. Ticket prices are set at $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, students with ID, and children aged 12 and under.
The Pride enters this match with an impressive 14-4-2 record and is riding a four-game winning streak. They recently captured their fourth consecutive CAA Championship by defeating UNCW 1-0, becoming the first team in CAA history to achieve this feat. Hofstra has participated in the NCAA Tournament nine times and holds a 6-7-1 all-time record in NCAA play, including a noteworthy 4-1 record at home.
On the other side, Vermont comes in as the America East champions, boasting a strong record of 12-2-5. They recently triumphed over Iona with a decisive 5-0 victory in the first round, thanks to standout performances from Yaniv Bazini. Historically, the rivalry between Hofstra and Vermont is tight, with Hofstra leading their all-time series 6-5-1.
The winner of this pivotal matchup will move on to the third round, facing the victor of the No. 10 Duke versus San Diego game, with a potential home advantage for Hofstra.
