In a fierce battle on the field, the Maine Black Bears defeated the Vermont Catamounts with a final score of 3-1 in a field hockey matchup. Maine took an early lead scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes of the game, with goals from Alexandra Sacker, Olivia Geniti, and Poppy Lambert. Vermont fought back with shots on goal but was unable to find the back of the net until Meg Weyer scored in the 48th minute.
Despite Vermont outshooting Maine 17-10 and forcing the Black Bears’ goalie into 12 saves, they were unable to secure the win. Sophia Drees, with her assist on Weyers’ goal, is now one assist away from tying the record and two away from breaking it. Sophia Lefranc also recorded her second career-high defensive save of the season.
The Catamounts will look to bounce back in their upcoming non-conference matchup against Stonehill on Sunday, September 29th. The game will be streamed live on AmericaEast TV.
