University of Maine Women’s Ice Hockey Team Set for Matchup Against Vermont Catamounts

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team is headed to Burlington, VT, this Sunday, November 24, for a showdown against the Vermont Catamounts at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The game is set to start at 2:00 PM and will stream live on ESPN+ and TSN+, with an international broadcast available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet.

In their recent matches, the Black Bears faced a challenging weekend, getting swept by the #15 Northeastern Huskies in two tightly contested games. Despite outshooting their opponent in Friday’s encounter, Maine fell 2-1, suffering a late-game setback. Saturday brought additional difficulties due to penalties, allowing Northeastern to capitalize on power plays and secure a 2-0 victory. Goaltender Kiia Lahtinen was exceptional, making a total of 60 saves over the weekend, while Lily Fetch scored Maine’s only goal, assisted by Jaidyn Britt and Alyssa Wruble.

Earlier this month, Maine faced Vermont in a split series, securing a 5-1 victory before narrowly losing 2-1 in the subsequent match at Alfond Arena. Last season, Maine dominated Vermont in their three meetings.

The Catamounts also come off a split performance, recently tying with Providence College in their last two games, winning one in a shootout. Junior forward Lara Beecher currently leads Vermont with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists), while senior Evelyne Blais-Savoie tops the team in goals with four. In goal, Jane Gervais has maintained a solid performance, with a 2.6 GAA and a .913 save percentage.

Looking ahead, the Black Bears will host the #1 Wisconsin Badgers for a non-conference matchup at Alfond Arena later this month, marking their first encounter with the team since 2003. December will see Maine compete against Boston University, UConn, and Merrimack College.
