Former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who won a defamation judgment against Rudy Giuliani, are seeking civil contempt against him for continuing to falsely accuse them of election fraud. Despite a court-approved deal in May, Giuliani has persisted in making false claims about them online. The pair are seeking fines and future penalties for Giuliani’s violations of the injunction. A representative for Giuliani called the motion an attack on his First Amendment rights. Giuliani was found liable for defaming the pair during his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. A jury initially awarded Freeman and Moss $148 million, which was later reduced to $146 million. Giuliani filed for bankruptcy but the case was dismissed for failing to disclose financial information. Freeman and Moss have accused Giuliani of slow-walking the surrender of his assets, including luxury watches and a car once owned by Lauren Bacall. Giuliani is challenging their claim to certain items, including his Florida condo and Yankees World Series rings. Despite Giuliani’s request to delay the trial, the judge has upheld the trial date set for January 16th. Freeman and Moss’s attorneys assert that Giuliani’s preference for attending pre-inauguration events does not justify delaying the trial. They continue to pursue the enforcement of their judgement against Giuliani.
