The University of Vermont women’s hockey team secured their first victory of the 2024-25 season with a 1-0 win over #7 St. Lawrence. The game was part of the team’s annual Rally Around Mental Health event sponsored by Redstone. Jane Gervais was outstanding in goal, making 36 saves for her first shutout in the Green and Gold. Lara Beecher scored the lone goal of the game in the first period, her third of the season. Rose-Marie Brochu and Josie Hemp provided assists on Beecher’s goal. Hemp also had a strong game with a career-high four blocked shots and her first career point.
Vermont’s victory triggered donations to the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation and Vermont Works For Women through the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. The team will look to sweep the weekend series against St. Lawrence in their upcoming game, which will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
Head Coach Jim Plumer praised his team’s compete level and highlighted the importance of maintaining that standard moving forward. The Catamounts are aiming to build on this win and compete at a high level consistently. Overall, it was a night of impressive performances by Vermont’s players, who showed resilience and determination against a tough opponent. Fans can expect more exciting hockey action from the Catamounts as they continue their season.
