Vermont Women’s Basketball Defeats Dartmouth in Dominant Fashion
Vermont’s women’s basketball team displayed remarkable prowess on Monday, clinching a convincing 61-37 victory over local rivals Dartmouth. The Catamounts broke the game open in the second quarter with an impressive 19-2 scoring run, showcasing their defensive and offensive strength.
After a quiet first quarter where they did not attempt a shot, Vermont’s leading scorer, Anna Olson, ignited the offense, netting 10 points on perfect shooting during the second quarter. The Catamounts jumped to an early 8-0 lead thanks to Catherine Gilwee, who hit two three-pointers on Vermont’s first two possessions.
Although Dartmouth managed to trim Vermont’s lead to 14-12 late in the first quarter, the Big Green struggled to maintain their momentum. Vermont capitalized on their defensive tenacity, forcing 11 turnovers in the first half, which translated into 13 points and established a commanding 35-14 lead by halftime.
In addition to Olson’s standout performance, finishing the game with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting, Bella Vito also contributed significantly with her best outing of the season, scoring 10 points, securing nine rebounds, and dishing out six assists.
This matchup marked a significant milestone for head coach Alisa Kresge, as she achieved her 100th win with the Catamounts. The team is now set to embark on a six-game road trip, beginning with the Great Alaska Shootout tournament this weekend.
