Vermont Women’s Basketball Achieves Milestone Win Against Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Vermont Catamounts delivered a stellar performance, defeating the Dartmouth Big Green 61-37 on Friday night, marking a significant milestone for head coach Alisa Kresge, who celebrated her 100th career win.
Leading the scoring for Vermont (3-2) was Anna Olson, who netted 16 points, anchoring a strong defensive display that held Dartmouth (2-2) to a mere 14 points in the first half. The Catamounts started strong with an 8-0 run, including consecutive three-pointers from Catherine Gilwee. After a brief response from the Big Green, Vermont maintained their lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 16-12.
The second quarter was dominated by the Catamounts, who initiated a commanding 10-0 run, effectively stifling Dartmouth’s offense; the Big Green did not score until four minutes remaining in the quarter. Vermont closed the half with a 9-0 run, underscoring their defensive prowess and tactical execution.
In the second half, both teams exchanged baskets, but Vermont consistently maintained their lead. Among the contributions, Keira Hanson, Bella Vito, and Malia Lenz continued to add to the scoreboard, with Vito recording six points in the third quarter alone.
Vermont’s balanced attack was evident as they combined for robust rebounding and assists, with Vito and Olson leading in rebounds with nine and six, respectively. The Catamounts displayed an effective floor game, showcasing teamwork with multiple assists from Olson, Vito, and Nikola Priede.
