Dartmouth Women’s Basketball Falls to Vermont 61-37
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women’s basketball team faced a challenging game on Saturday evening, succumbing to Vermont with a final score of 61-37 at Leede Arena. After a competitive first quarter, where the Big Green trailed by only four points, a devastating second quarter saw them outscored 19-2.
Victoria Page led Dartmouth with a strong performance, scoring 16 points, while Olivia Austin contributed with seven points and nine rebounds. Despite being even with Vermont in the third quarter and only outscored by three in the fourth, the damage was done, leaving Dartmouth unable to recover.
The first quarter was marked by an early 8-0 lead from Vermont, but Dartmouth responded effectively, narrowing the gap to 14-12 before finishing the quarter at 16-12. However, the second quarter proved to be pivotal, as Vermont embarked on a 10-0 run and concluded the quarter with an impressive nine-point streak, extending their lead significantly.
Dartmouth fought back in the third quarter, with Zeynep Ozel hitting two three-pointers, bringing the deficit down to 19 points at one stage. The final quarter saw Vermont maintain a lead between 19 to 24 points, as Page shone with seven points, including a notable three-point play.
The game statistics reflected Dartmouth’s struggles, shooting at 33.3% from the field compared to Vermont’s 47.4%. With this loss, Dartmouth’s record moved to 2-2 (0-0 Ivy League) while Vermont improved to 3-2 (0-0 America East).
The Big Green will regroup during the final exam period and will return to action on December 1st, hosting New Hampshire at 2:00 PM.
