In a tough matchup against St. Thomas on Saturday night, the University of Vermont men’s hockey team fell 3-1, despite a strong effort from goalie Keenan Rancier who made a career-high 37 saves. Max Strand scored his first career goal for the Catamounts, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.
Head Coach Stephen Wiedler expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, noting that they did not stick to their game plan and lacked the necessary competitiveness. St. Thomas took an early lead in the game, scoring just 38 seconds into the first period. Despite Rancier’s impressive saves, the Tommies managed to extend their lead and ultimately secure the win with an empty net goal in the final minutes of the game.
Despite the loss, Community Bank N.A. will donate $75 to Special Olympics Vermont as part of their donation program tied to the team’s performance.
Looking ahead, the Catamounts will return home to face off against Clarkson on October 19. The game will be broadcast live on WVMT and ESPN+, with fans in attendance receiving a special co-branded stainless-steel cup. Tickets are available for purchase online.
