In a thrilling America East Championship match, #17 Vermont secured a 2-1 victory over Bryant to claim their seventh conference title in program history. Maximilian Kissel’s late goal in the 86th minute proved to be the decisive goal that sealed the win for the Catamounts. This victory marks Vermont’s second conference title in four years and the second under head coach Rob Dow.
The match saw a scoreless first half with Vermont dominating defensively, holding Bryant to zero shots on goal. Vermont broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Marcell Papp scored off a cross from Sydney Wathuta. Bryant quickly equalized in the 82nd minute, setting up a tense finale. However, Kissel’s header from a corner kick by Jeremy Tsang put Vermont ahead 2-1, ultimately clinching the championship.
With this win, Vermont will make their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, a program-first achievement. Four Catamounts were named to the All-Championship Team, with Zach Barrett receiving the Most Outstanding Player honor. Additionally, Karl Daly was awarded the Elite 18 award for his academic achievements.
Vermont’s next challenge will be in the NCAA Tournament, where they will discover their opponent during the selection show on November 18.
