Honeywell to Provide Technology for Purifying Natural Gas in Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG Project
Honeywell has been selected to deliver technology for purifying natural gas before its liquefaction in Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG project, located in the Afungi peninsula in Palma. This project, spearheaded by the Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) – a joint venture involving ExxonMobil, Eni S.p.A., and CNPC – aims to address the growing global demand for natural gas and improve energy accessibility in the region.
The technology provided by Honeywell, including the SeparSIVTM and MolSIVTM units, will remove heavy hydrocarbons, water, carbon dioxide, and mercury from the natural gas, ensuring it meets industry standards with minimal pressure loss. This solvent-free LNG pretreatment process is essential for enhancing production efficiency and promoting cleaner energy solutions.
ExxonMobil Mozambique’s general manager, Arne Gibbs, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility through the integration of Honeywell’s technologies into the project design. The Rovuma LNG facility is expected to produce 18 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually using modular LNG liquefaction trains.
By investing in advanced technology and infrastructure, MRV and Honeywell are not only supporting Mozambique’s economic development but also positioning the country as a significant player in the global energy market. This collaboration showcases the potential of technology-driven solutions in addressing energy challenges and advancing towards a cleaner energy future.
As the local communities anticipate improved energy access, the partnership between Honeywell and MRV highlights the positive impact of technology in driving sustainable energy solutions. With the implementation of Honeywell’s purification technology, Mozambique is taking a significant step towards becoming a key player in the global energy sector.
