Vermonter Spreads Holiday Cheer by Donating Toys to Hurricane Helene Victims
SWANTON, Vt. (WCAX) – In the spirit of the season, local resident Jason Hodgdon is stepping up to aid families affected by Hurricane Helene by organizing a toy donation drive. Hodgdon plans to fill his truck with new toy donations and deliver them to children in need in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Partnering with TDI in Swanton, which has generously donated a trailer for this initiative, Hodgdon will transport the toys using a truck from his own trucking company. Upon arrival in Charlotte, the toys will be distributed by local Shriners to families who have been affected by the hurricane.
The inspiration for this heartfelt project came when Hodgdon watched his grandson enjoying his toys. “It just hit me that the kids down there, yeah they’re staying with family members and stuff, but they don’t have their toys,” he shared. “It’s not just getting their toys for Christmas; it’s all the old toys they played with that they don’t have anymore.”
Community members are encouraged to contribute to this noble cause by dropping off new toy donations at several locations, including Hodgdon Brothers in Swanton, Jolly Truck Stop in St. Albans, Brady and Levesque Funeral Home in St. Albans, and Two Boots Saloon in Milton. The deadline for donations is set for November 30.
Hodgdon’s initiative reminds us of the impact we can have during the holiday season and the importance of uplifting those who are less fortunate. With community support, he aims to bring joy and a sense of normalcy to children affected by the hurricane.
