Three more individuals have been arrested and charged with hate crimes in connection to a targeted attack on a man due to his sexual orientation in Maryland. Sean Antone, Benjamin Brandenburg, and Logan Clark were taken into custody following the arrest of 12 Salisbury University students involved in the assault. The charges against Antone, Brandenburg, and Clark include first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, and hate crime offenses. All three are Salisbury students and have been placed on interim suspension by the university. The incident occurred on Oct. 15 at an off-campus apartment complex, where the victim was violently assaulted by a group of men after being lured there under false pretenses. The assault, which involved physical violence and derogatory name-calling, lasted for several minutes and resulted in the victim sustaining injuries including a broken rib. Investigators determined that the victim was targeted because of his sexual preferences. Some of those involved in the assault are members or associates of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, which has been placed on suspension. Riley Brister, one of the initial 12 students arrested, intends to plead not guilty to the charges against him. A community vigil and unity walk were held on the campus to address the incident. The attorney for some of the accused students criticized the university for suspending them before any findings related to the incident had been determined.
