Montpelier Celebrates First-Ever Downtown Bridge Illumination
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – In a historic moment for the city, Montpelier’s seven downtown bridges were illuminated for the very first time during a community celebration hosted by Montpelier Alive. The event featured a delightful lantern parade, refreshments, and a stunning performance by Cirque De Fuego, bringing together residents and visitors to embrace the spirit of community.
As twilight descended, participants lit their lanterns and processed up Main Street, passing over the bridges and along the bike path to the Taylor Street Bridge, where the illumination spectacle was most vibrant. Elena Gustavson, owner of Magpie & Tiger, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “I think it will… our downtown and the folks who’ve lived here and supported all these businesses are just excited to be celebrating something lovely like that.”
The celebration also included a captivating fire performance by Vermont’s Cirque De Fuego, which took place at the Taylor Street Bridge, leaving attendees in awe. In addition to the bridge lighting ceremony, Montpelier High School hosted a student circus performance, providing more opportunities for community engagement and entertainment.
