Chandler City Council Approves Contract for Multi-Language Translation Technology Services
The Chandler City Council has recently approved a contract for multi-language translation technology services and support with TranslateLive, LLC. This one-year contract will provide devices that enable real-time, on-demand conversations in over 200 languages and dialects, both in-person and remotely.
As part of the contract, 20 desktop devices will be placed in high-traffic locations within the city, such as the City Clerk’s office, Chandler Municipal Court, municipal utilities, libraries, and police records. Additionally, five portable devices will be used in the field, allowing city staff to assist residents directly in the community.
The initiative follows a successful six-month pilot program launched in September 2023 to test instant language translation devices. The goal was to remove communication barriers and improve customer service. The pilot program saw 560 interactions across 10 city departments and divisions, with Spanish being the most frequently used language, followed by English. Only two interactions were in American Sign Language.
Moving forward, Chandler will continue promoting this service to increase awareness among residents who could benefit from it. This advancement in translation technology marks a significant step towards enhancing accessibility and inclusivity within the city.
