Vermont Catamounts Gear Up for America East Championship Title Match
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts (10-2-5, 4-1-2 AE) are set to take on the Bryant Bulldogs (10-5-4, 4-3-0 AE) in the 2024 America East Men’s Soccer Championship Game this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Virtue Field. This marks the Catamounts’ third championship game appearance in the last five years and their first time hosting since 2015.
The event is sold out, with fans encouraged to wear gold to support the team. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+, featuring play-by-play from Brian McLaughlin and analysis by Vermont Green FC Head Coach Adam Pfeifer. An international stream will also be available free of charge on AmericaEast.TV.
Bryant, the defending America East Champions after defeating UNH 1-0 in last year’s final, reached this year’s final by edging out the tournament’s top-seed in a tense penalty shootout after a scoreless draw on Thursday. Vermont holds a strong historical advantage, boasting a perfect 5-0-0 record against the Bulldogs, including a win earlier this season on October 19.
The Catamounts have had a successful season, leading the conference with a goal differential of +18. They have proven resilient in late-game situations, scoring 15 of their goals in the final stages of matches.
In recognition of their strengths, several Catamounts players and their coaching staff were honored recently, including Sydney Wathuta, named AE Midfielder of the Year, and Zach Barrett as AE Defender of the Year. The coaching team led by Rob Dow was also awarded Coacing Staff of the Year.
