The Vermont Catamounts suffered a tough 5-1 loss against Maine at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena on Friday afternoon. Maine dominated the game, scoring five straight goals to begin the match. The Catamounts fall to 2-7-0 overall and 1-4-0 in Hockey East play, while Maine improves to 2-7-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Hockey East Play. Head Coach Jim Plumer acknowledged that his team was outcompeted in every aspect of the game and admitted they have work to do to improve for their next match.
Maine opened the scoring in the first period, and despite Vermont’s efforts to equalize, a goal was disallowed due to a penalty. Maine continued to dominate, adding three more goals in the second period and two more in the third. Vermont’s Cecilia DesLauriers scored the only goal for the Catamounts, marking her first collegiate goal. Goalie Jane Gervais made 35 saves during the game.
The Catamounts will have another chance to face Maine and redeem themselves in the next game set for this Saturday at 2 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
