Tropical Storm Sara made landfall in northern Honduras and threatened to bring heavy rains to Central America and southern Mexico. The storm hit near a village with few population centers nearby, but Mexican authorities warned of intense rains over the Yucatan Peninsula. Sara had winds of 45 mph and was expected to drop 10 to 20 inches, and even up to 30 inches of rain in isolated areas, which could lead to life-threatening flooding and landslides. The storm was forecast to pass over the tourist destination of Roatan off Honduras’ coast before turning northwesterly toward Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula.
