Qiskit Fall Fest brings excitement to the world of quantum technology – The Lafayette

Lafayette College recently hosted the “Quantum Unlocked: Qiskit Fall Fest” event, attracting a diverse group of students interested in quantum science. The event included a panel discussion with quantum information experts, a live stage reading of the play “Copenhagen,” and a workshop on quantum computing sponsored by International Business Machines and other institutions. The event aimed to explore the applications of quantum properties in light and matter.

Heidi Hendrickson, an assistant professor of chemistry and the event organizer, expressed gratitude for the student-driven initiative. The panel discussion featured professionals from different fields discussing the advancements in quantum technology over the past two decades. The live stage reading of “Copenhagen” focused on the ethical implications of scientific innovations like the atomic bomb.

The workshop on quantum computing, led by Yale University PhD students, provided hands-on experience with Qiskit. The goal was to make complex quantum concepts accessible to attendees from various backgrounds, including freshmen. The organizers hoped to demystify quantum mechanics and inspire students to explore future opportunities in the field.

Overall, the event showcased the interdisciplinary nature of quantum science and emphasized the practical applications of quantum technology in everyday life. By bringing together students from diverse disciplines, the “Quantum Unlocked: Qiskit Fall Fest” aimed to provide a platform for learning and collaboration in the quantum information science field.
