Eagles Surge to Victory Against Commanders, Overcome Hurts’ Concussion Scare
PHILADELPHIA — In a thrilling NFC East showdown, the Philadelphia Eagles secured a 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders on Thursday night, aided by a spectacular fourth-quarter rally led by quarterback Jalen Hurts. The win marked the Eagles’ sixth consecutive triumph, improving their record to 8-2.
The game took a concerning turn for Hurts just before half-time when he sustained a heavy blow to the head, prompting a sidelined concussion evaluation. However, the 26-year-old returned to start the second half, demonstrating resilience and leadership to lift his team back into contention.
At the end of the third quarter, Washington led 10-6, driven by a touchdown from Brian Robinson and a 45-yard field goal by Zane Gonzalez. The Eagles, however, crafted an 11-play, 76-yard drive in the fourth quarter that culminated in Hurts’ one-yard touchdown run, part of the team’s signature "brotherly shove" play.
Despite a missed extra point from kicker Jake Elliott that left Washington trailing by just a field goal, the Eagles seized the momentum when Hurts capitalized on a failed fourth-down attempt by the Commanders. This led to another touchdown drive finished off by Saquon Barkley, who dashed 23 yards for a score, extending Philadelphia’s lead to 19-10.
Washington’s hopes dimmed further when quarterback Jayden Daniels was intercepted, allowing Barkley to add another touchdown on a 39-yard run, pushing the lead to 26-10. Though the Commanders managed a late touchdown by Zach Ertz and successfully converted a two-point attempt, the Eagles effortlessly recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the win.
As they gear up for the remainder of the season, the Eagles’ performance showcased their tenacity and offensive prowess, making them a formidable force in the conference.
