Week 6 of the 2024 Vermont high school football season is here, and High School on SI has released its second week of computer rankings for the state. The Champlain Valley Union Redhawks maintain their No. 1 spot in the Division 1 rankings, with Essex following closely behind at No. 2 after defeating previously undefeated Rutland.
The rankings were created using a linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method, developed by astrophysicist Wes Colley. This method aims to reduce subjectivity and controversy in football selections, utilizing objective variables to determine rankings.
As of October 7th, 2024, SBLive’s latest Vermont football computer rankings for Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 are available.
