Apple has introduced new MacBook Pro laptops with updated processors, likely their last hardware announcement of the year. The new devices feature Apple’s latest chip, the M4, with more powerful versions available. The new chips are 1.8 times faster than the M1 chip. Apple has made changes to all Mac models to prepare for future AI features, with the new laptops designed for Apple Intelligence. All models come with at least 16GB of RAM, a significant upgrade from previous models. The MacBook Air and iMac will also start with at least 16GB of RAM.
Apple’s Mac lineup is crucial for the company, despite generating less revenue than other products like the iPhone or wearables. The refreshed MacBook Pro models feature a thicker design with traditional ports like HDMI. Apple’s Mac sales reached $7 billion in the quarter ending in June, up 2% from the previous year. The 14-inch Mac starts at $1,599, and the 16-inch model starts at $2,499. The new laptops will be available starting November 8, with models featuring up to 24 hours of battery life and an upgraded 12-megapixel video camera. This release follows a successful 2021 for Mac launches, including the transition to the M-series chips.
