Bennington Town Clerk, Cassandra Barbeau, was recently honored by the Vermont Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association for achieving Certified Vermont Clerk status. Barbeau, who took over the position in 2014, has been serving in the town clerk’s office for over 20 years.
Throughout her tenure, Barbeau has focused on continued education, attending annual conferences, and staying involved in legislative issues related to her role. She was appointed to the position by the Select Board in 2014 and has been re-elected every four years since then, with her most recent term being in March 2024.
The certification program by the association was established to increase the proficiency of municipal clerks and treasurers, as well as to provide recognition for their role in local government. It aims to promote professionalism, provide opportunities for advanced certification, and foster a closer working relationship between local officials and the state.
Barbeau expressed her excitement and pride in achieving this certification, attributing it to her dedication to the role and staying updated on industry trends. The award was presented to her during an annual conference in Montpelier, where she was recognized for her contributions to the town clerk’s office and her commitment to serving the constituents of Bennington.
