Mark Cuban criticizes aspect of Harris’ tax plan while endorsing her campaign

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in Arizona, assuring the audience that she wouldn’t tax wealthy people’s unrealized gains, a part of President Joe Biden’s tax plan. Cuban criticized the idea of taxing unrealized gains, calling it an “economy killer.” Despite Harris endorsing Biden’s 2025 budget proposal, which includes a 25% minimum tax on income over $100 million, her campaign hasn’t specifically addressed taxing unrealized gains. Former President Donald Trump has criticized the idea, calling it communism. Cuban stated that Harris wouldn’t implement such a tax, and if she did, he would campaign against her. Cuban has become a unique draw for the Harris-Walz campaign as he departs from typical Democratic talking points, such as criticizing their immigration policy. Other campaign surrogates, like Bryan Cranston, have also strayed from the traditional message, emphasizing the importance of voting over partisan loyalty. Cuban sees the taxation of unrealized gains as a damaging policy and has consistently spoken out against it, though he clarifies that he does not speak for Harris or her campaign. The campaign declined to comment on Harris’ stance on taxing unrealized gains, but Cuban’s assurance has given the Arizona entrepreneurs in attendance some comfort that such a tax would not be implemented.
