A five-alarm brush fire in Oakland, California, known as the Keller Fire, sparked evacuation orders and burned two homes on Friday. The fire started in a home on Mountain Avenue and spread to a grove of Eucalyptus trees, expanding to 15 acres. As of Saturday morning, the fire was 50% contained. Fire Chief Damon Covington stated that crews had stopped the forward progress of the fire but still had more work to do. Two homes were impacted by the flames, with dozens of others threatened but not damaged. Evacuation orders were initially issued for Campus Drive and Crystal Ridge Court, expanding to surrounding areas later on. Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao urged those being evacuated to leave immediately for their safety. One resident, Delane Sims, shared that her home was one of the two damaged by the fire. Her husband was inside when the fire caused a front window to explode, but he was able to get out safely. Sims expressed gratitude for his survival and thanked God for his safety. Crews were working aggressively to fully extinguish the blaze, with updates being provided by the Oakland Fire Department and CalFire.
