Donald Trump pledges to pursue legal action against Google if re-elected as president

Former President Donald Trump threatened to direct the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against Google if he is re-elected president, accusing the company of displaying negative news articles about him but not his opponent, Kamala Harris. The threat was made in a post on Truth Social where Trump claimed that Google was engaging in illegal activity by only showing negative stories about him while promoting positive stories about Harris. Trump vowed to request their prosecution if the Justice Department did not act.

Google has denied manipulating search results to benefit a particular party and stated that both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of search results for relevant queries. However, conservatives have long complained that Google search results unfairly favor Democrats. The Media Research Center has published reports claiming that Google has helped Democrats.

This latest threat from Trump comes amidst a pattern of vowing to prosecute perceived opponents, including threatening legal action against those involved in alleged election fraud and calling for criminal charges against Nancy Pelosi for her involvement in the January 6 Capitol attack. Trump also called for an investigation into Pelosi and her husband over reports of insider trading.

Overall, Trump’s comments reflect his willingness to use the power of the presidency against his enemies, real or perceived, and his continued efforts to shape the narrative to his advantage as he gears up for a potential presidential run in 2024.
