Zelenskyy: Russia Should Be Compelled to Pursue Peace According to the UN Charter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for an end to the war in Ukraine based on United Nations rules in a speech to the UN Security Council. He described the war as “insane” and revealed that Ukraine has information that Russia plans to target three nuclear plants. Zelenskyy urged the UN to “force” Russia into peace, emphasizing that Russia’s actions cannot be justified under the UN charter, including the killing of children. He also called on the BRICS countries to be part of peace efforts.

Zelenskyy is set to present his full “victory plan” to US President Joe Biden on September 26. The plan will outline Ukraine’s terms for future peace negotiations with Russia and does not include proposed concessions. Zelenskyy also plans to discuss the plan with presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

During a week-long visit to the US, Zelenskyy addressed the UN General Assembly and visited an arms ammunition factory in Pennsylvania. He will meet with Biden and the presidential candidates in Washington later this week. Trump has indicated he may not provide the same level of support to Ukraine as the Biden administration. In a recent debate with Harris, Trump declined to state whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war.

Zelenskyy’s call for an end to the war and his upcoming discussions with US leaders underscore the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the importance of international collaboration in achieving peace. Ukraine continues to push for resolution based on UN principles and hopes to move towards a peaceful resolution with Russia.
