Pop icon Janet Jackson, during an interview with The Guardian, echoed disinformation about Vice President Kamala Harris not being Black. Jackson mentioned that she had heard Harris is Indian and not Black, despite the fact that Harris has Indian heritage and is Black as well. This misinformation has also been perpetuated by former President Donald Trump, who claimed that Harris “turned Black” for political gain. Harris’ mother is from India and her father is Black, with Jackson stating that she had heard her father was white.
During the interview, Jackson also expressed a lack of hope regarding the presidential election and mentioned the issue of child sex trafficking, highlighting the prevalence of the issue and the billion-dollar business it has become. Additionally, Jackson discussed her tour dates and her effort to strengthen her own legacy, which may have been overshadowed by her brother Michael Jackson and the infamous Super Bowl halftime show incident involving Justin Timberlake in 2004. Despite the challenges she has faced, Jackson has achieved success in her own right with 10 No. 1 hits, 5 Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award nomination.
