Hungary remains on high alert as Storm Boris heads south, with Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony warning of the risk of the biggest flood of the decade. The Danube water levels are expected to reach 8.5 metres near the city, prompting flood defence measures along 540 kilometers of Hungary’s rivers. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has issued a third-degree alert along 200 kilometers, authorizing the opening of an emergency reservoir along the Leitha river. Traffic restrictions have been put in place in the Gyor-Moson-Sopron and Komárom-Esztergom counties bordering the Danube, as well as in the Danube bend area, affecting international train services between Hungary and Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. The Hungarian government is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to prevent any potential damage caused by flooding. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow any official instructions to stay safe during this critical time.
