In Philadelphia, law enforcement officials provided an update on the case of Muhyyee-ud-din Abdul-Rahman, an 18-year-old boy who was arrested last year for alleged involvement with a group affiliated with Al-Qaeda and attempting to obtain weapons of mass destruction. It was revealed that Abdul-Rahman had bomb-making materials in his home, tested bombs in his backyard, and had considered attacking the LGBTQ community during the Philadelphia Pride March. He had aspirations of becoming a bomb-maker for a terrorist group in Syria and had made plans to move there. Abdul-Rahman communicated with the global terrorist group KTJ and had conducted searches on topics like trashcan bombs, military bases, and locations of nuclear power stations. A judge ruled that Abdul-Rahman would be charged as an adult and his bail was set at $5 million. Officials confirmed that no other individuals in Abdul-Rahman’s family were involved in or aware of his alleged activities. He faces charges of weapons of mass destruction, criminal conspiracy, arson, and related offenses. Abdul-Rahman has not entered a plea and it is unclear if he has legal representation. The case highlights the serious nature of the charges and the potential threat that Abdul-Rahman posed as a result of his actions.
