Mark Meadows’ attempt to transfer Arizona case to federal court is denied by judge

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows was denied a request to move his Arizona indictment to federal court by U.S. District Judge John J. Tuchi. Meadows, along with 17 other defendants, was indicted by a state grand jury in Arizona for his role in efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 electoral defeat. The charges include conspiracy, forgery, and fraudulent schemes and practices.

The prosecution alleges that Meadows collaborated with Trump’s campaign to coordinate fake electors’ votes in Arizona and other states. In a separate case in Georgia, Meadows and Trump were indicted on state felony charges related to similar election result overturning efforts, with some co-defendants pleading guilty but Meadows and Trump both pleading not guilty.

Efforts to move Meadows’ indictment to federal court in Georgia were also unsuccessful, with some counts being thrown out in that case. Trump’s federal trial on similar charges has stalled in Washington, D.C. with no trial date set. Meadows has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him in both Arizona and Georgia cases. The judge in the Georgia case has put proceedings on hold as there are challenges to the prosecutor’s qualifications. Meadows, along with Trump and others, continue to face legal challenges for their actions following the 2020 election.
