Typhoon Bebinca brought Shanghai to a standstill with wind speeds of 94 miles per hour, causing more than 10,000 trees to fall and resulting in over 400,000 evacuations. Despite the strong storm, only one injury was reported. Flights and trains were canceled, parks and businesses closed, and resorts like Shanghai Disney Resort were shut down. By early afternoon, the storm had moved on to the neighboring province of Jiangsu, but rain was expected to continue in Shanghai. The city, known for rarely being hit directly by strong typhoons, was last struck by a storm of this magnitude in 1949. Overall, more than 1,400 flights and 570 passenger trains were canceled due to the storm’s impact. Although there were disruptions and closures throughout the city, officials and rescue workers were deployed to handle the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
