Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has been given a suspended sentence for possessing indecent images of children. The 58-year-old was arrested last year after police found over 40,000 illegal images and videos on his electronic devices.
Edwards admitted to the charges and apologized for his actions, stating that he had been struggling with mental health issues at the time. His defense lawyer argued that he did not have a sexual interest in children and had no intention of sharing the images.
The judge sentenced Edwards to a nine-month suspended prison term and ordered him to complete 200 hours of community service. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
