Dozens of people were wounded in a Russian airstrike on an apartment block in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second biggest city, on Sunday afternoon. At least 35 people were injured when a guided bomb struck the 10th floor of the building, causing a fire that spread across four stories. Video footage showed rescue crews assisting elderly residents of the building.
Prior to this attack, two people were killed in a missile strike on the Ukrainian port city of Odesa. The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 10 of the 14 drones and one of the three missiles launched by Russia overnight. In response, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have downed 29 Ukrainian drones in western and southwestern regions.
As the conflict intensifies, Ukraine has renewed calls for the West to allow them to use long-range missiles to strike targets deep inside Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed for support on social media, stating that Russia had launched multiple missiles, guided aerial bombs, and drones against Ukraine.
Amidst the ongoing attacks and calls for increased support, tensions continue to rise between Russia and Ukraine. It remains to be seen how the international community will respond to Ukraine’s calls for assistance in their efforts to defend against Russian aggression.
