In a shocking turn of events, a knife attack at a festival in Solingen, Germany has left several people dead and others seriously injured. The attack occurred during a “Festival of Diversity” held to mark the anniversary of the city’s founding. Although an official death toll has not been released, reports suggest three people were killed and four were injured.
Solingen Mayor Tim-Oliver Kurzbach expressed his grief over the tragic incident, stating that the city had been looking forward to celebrating its anniversary together but is now mourning the loss of lives. The perpetrator remains at large, with police believing the attack was carried out randomly.
The assailant reportedly fled the scene after the attack, which took place at the Fronhof market square where live music was being played. The city centre has been cordoned off as authorities conduct their investigations.
Solingen, a city with nearly 160,000 residents, is located in western Germany near the Dutch border. The “Festival of Diversity” was part of the city’s 650th birthday celebrations and was scheduled to run over the weekend.
As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and have promised to provide more details as they become available.
