Live Coverage: Biden reassures campaign staff that he is not leaving the race; Second House Democrat calls for him to quit – US Elections 2024

[ad_1]
President Joe Biden has affirmed his commitment to stay in the presidential race and continue his re-election bid despite growing concerns after a lackluster debate performance. In a call with staff members, Biden made it clear that he is not being pushed out and stated, “I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win.” Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed her support for Biden, emphasizing that they will fight and follow his lead.

However, Biden’s recent struggles have prompted some House Democrats to call for him to withdraw from the race. Democratic House members Raúl Grijalva and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez have expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to defeat Donald Trump in the election.

A new poll released by the New York Times/Siena College shows Trump leading Biden by 6 percentage points, marking the largest lead he has had since 2015. The poll also indicates that Michelle Obama is the only Democrat who could beat Trump in a hypothetical match.

In the midst of this political crisis, Biden hosted a Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House to honor two Union soldiers posthumously. The soldiers were recognized for their gallantry and intrepidity during a military operation deep into Confederate territory in 1862.

The growing discontent within the Democratic party and the increasing lead for Trump in the polls have raised questions about Biden’s candidacy and the party’s ability to defeat Trump in the upcoming election.
